1. Our Approach to Privacy
Capture is built to be a second brain that never leaves your phone. Everything you save is stored locally on your device, and the app's intelligence — semantic search and the on-device question-answering model — runs entirely on the device. There is no Capture account, and we do not operate servers that store your saved content. This policy explains what limited data is involved and which third-party services the app uses.
2. What You Save Stays on Your Device
The links, notes, text, messages, images, screenshots, videos, audio, and files you capture are stored in a local database on your device. We do not receive, read, or store this content on our servers. Deleting an item, or deleting the app, removes that content from the device.
3. Cloud Sync Uses Your Own Storage
If you turn on cloud sync, your library is synced through your own personal cloud account — Apple iCloud on iOS or Google Drive on Android — not through Capture-operated servers. Your data travels between your devices and your own cloud storage. The handling of that data in your cloud account is governed by Apple's or Google's privacy terms.
- iCloud sync is handled by Apple and stored in your private iCloud container.
- Google Drive sync requests only the limited drive.file scope, giving the app access to the files it creates and nothing else in your Drive.
- Cloud sync is optional and off until you enable it.
4. On-Device AI
Semantic search and the “Ask your library” feature use machine-learning models that run locally on your device. Your saved content is not sent to any external server for AI processing. No prompts, embeddings, or answers are transmitted off the device for these features.
5. Third-Party Services
Capture uses a small number of third-party services for subscriptions, analytics, and app performance. These services may process limited technical or anonymous data under their own privacy policies, which you should review separately.
- Adapty — manages in-app purchases and subscription entitlements.
- Firebase (Google) — provides crash reporting and app diagnostics.
- Amplitude — collects anonymous, aggregate usage analytics such as feature interactions; it is not linked to the content you save.
- Meta SDK — used for measuring the effectiveness of advertising; the app does not collect the advertising identifier (IDFA) and does not present tracking prompts.
- Google Sign-In — used only to authorize Google Drive sync when you enable it on Android.
6. Analytics and Advertising
Analytics events describe how features are used (for example, that a save occurred or that search was opened) in an anonymous, aggregate form. They do not include the text, links, or media you save. Advertising measurement relies on aggregate, privacy-preserving signals and does not use a device advertising identifier.
7. Notifications
With your permission, Capture can send local reminders about items you saved and haven't returned to. These notifications are generated on your device and can be turned off at any time in the app or in your device settings.
8. Children's Privacy
Capture is not directed to children under the age required for consent in your jurisdiction and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
9. Your Rights and Control
Because your library lives on your device, you are always in control of it. You can delete any item, clear all data, export everything to JSON, HTML, Markdown, or CSV, or remove the app entirely. Import and export are always available and never restricted by a subscription.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a revised “last updated” date. Continued use of Capture after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
